How to Use Multi-Stop Routing in iOS 16 with Apple Maps

Whenever I plan a trip, especially a road trip that lasts longer than a day, I always plan more than one stopover. Not just bathroom and meal breaks, but interesting attractions, public parks and natural areas, friends who can live along the route - I like to include them all.

Until recently, if I were using an iPhone, I'd skip Apple Maps in favor of Google Maps for iOS, which has had the ability to create multi-stop maps since 2016. FinallyHowever, in iOS 16, Apple Maps lets you plan a route with multiple stops. It's a breeze to use.

3 Apple Cards

Just tap "Add Stop", add another destination and then move it wherever you want.

  • Open Apple Cards

  • Enter your start and end point. Maps calculates your route (or routes, if there are alternatives).

  • In the text directions, tap Add stop and add the place, address or contact person you want to visit.

  • The new stop is automatically added to the bottom of your list. If you want it to be a stopover, press and hold the three lines to the right of the place name and move it to the desired place in your list of destinations.

  • If you decide you want to delete a stop, swipe it to the left.

Each time you make a change, your map will be redrawn and your new stop will appear in the correct place (or disappear if you've removed it). The map also shows the estimated travel times between each stop.

Enjoy your trip!
